I am starting a new server rack build project and have been on the lookout for cheap hardware. I was lucky enough to pick up a 1U Dell C4130 Server for under $1000 Australian or $600 USD.
Dell Server C4130 Specification
Below was the specification that the server had when I purchased it.
- Dual Intel Xeon E5-2690 V4 (2.6GHz/14-core/35MB)
- 256gb DDR4 RAM
- 4 x NVIDIA Tesla P100 16GB SXM2 NVLink GPUS
- 960GB 1.8″ SATA SSD
- 2 x 2000W 15A Power supply

Additional Components
In order to get the server up and running I purchased:
- 2 x 15A Power Cords
- 2 x 15A to 10A – Power and Cut off switch (until I get proper wired outlets)
- XVGA Cable
- Additional 800GB 1.8″ SATA SSD and caddy
Initial Testing
For a quick test I installed ubuntu 24.04 LTS and installed Ollama and tested DeepSeek-r1 70b. Only runs at about 4.61 t/s 😔 this can easily be optimised with VLLM
# Download Ollama
curl -fsSL https://ollama.com/install.sh | sh
# DeepSeek-r1 approx 43gb
ollama run deepseek-r1:70b
Stay tuned for more updates.
